Floating Home

A new floating home on Lake Union, Seattle, Washington, designed by Vandeventer + Carlander Architects .

Its one of the eight proposed new floating homes in the home dock located on Lake Union. To maximize the interior volume & outdoor entertaining space it has the public spaces on the second level & the private spaces on the floating level.

So the floating level accommodates the entry, master bedroom & bathroom, & guest room & bathroom. The translucent staircase connects the two levels.

A tranquil palette characterizes a Los Angeles living room designed by Mariette Himes Gomez.

Richard Meier & Partners’ recent expansion of the Friesen House in Los Angeles involved adding a story perched on a platform straddling the original 1953 structure. Besides acting as a backdrop for the fireplace in the master bedroom, the concrete shear wall adds lateral stability to the house and supports the second story construction.
